This coordinate translation web service prototype can be used freely to translate between coordinate systems on biological data. FMNH makes best effort to keep the data and conversions as accurate as possible. Caching of the results is recommended if you need to use same result more than once.

Please note that this is a prototype and there is no guarantee that it will function without interruptions. The service is maintained on the basis of our best effort. Please send any notifications of technical problems or suggestions on improvements to .

The translation is based on the code from National Land Survey of Finland. It uses the correction datapoints collected by them and the same algorithms. Unfortunately there are some differences on the results from our systems and kansalaisen.karttapaikka.fi service. The difference should not be that important as in our tests it was less than 1m. It's still recommended that users don't use system repeatedly for translations on the numbers obtained from the system as it could lead to bigger deviation.

Usage instructions:

You can use the http based interface with either http get or post with either simple url parametes or soap
Parameters are following:
- orig_system, original coordinate system.
- new_system, new coordinate system.
- north, latitude of then coordinate.
- east, longtitude of the coordinate.
Coordinate systems you can use are following:
- ETRS: EUREF-FIN(WGS84), Degree coordinates.
- ETRS_TM35FIN: EUREF-FIN(ETRS-TM35FIN)
- ETRS_GK27:
- KKJ: KKJ Degree coordinates
- eYKJ: The common map square format.
